The Children Act requires by law that those that receive payment to care for a child under eight for more than two hours per day is registered. Any registered carer is subject to the national standards that apply. These standards are inspected by Ofsted, a government inspection office. Approval of suitable persons to look after children covers 14 standards and include police checks, suitability of premises and the developmental well-being of the child. If these elements are met, then the carer may claim grants .Things differ slightly if the carer is a relation.
